RSHE is an important part of our curriculum and it is hoped that all pupils will participate in all aspects of these lessons. The lessons educate children on Relationships Education and Health Education which includes learning about the changing adolescent body and puberty. The school acknowledges the legal rights of parents/carers to withdraw their child/children from any aspect of Sex Education (as indicated below) but it is important that parents note the difference between Sex Education and Relationship and Health Education. Once the child is within three school terms of being 16 years of age, they have the right to make the decision to participate in Sex Education lessons for themselves. Should a parent wish to withdraw their child from any or all aspects of Sex Education they should complete a ‘Right to Withdraw’ proforma which must be sent to office@sydneyrussellschool.com . On receipt of this your request will be discussed with you. Forms are available to download below. In line with the statutory guidance, where pupils are withdrawn from Sex Education a record will be kept and alternative work will be given to the student to complete away from the lesson.
